Reading Poetry to Help Fluency

Here are the students of 4C reading their poems together.






According to much research, repeated reading of poetry increases students' oral fluency. I reviewed Karen Newsome's research while incorporating poetry in the classroom. Newsome found that "repeated reading of poetry was both a beneficial and practical instructional activity. Students made improvements in both oral fluency and comprehension during the study."

4C students enjoyed reading the Bubblewrap poem together!
